Village Plan

The Wickwar Village Plan, an initiative supported by Wickwar Parish Council and The Countryside Agency, was created between May 2004 and September 2005.  The development of the plan was overseen by a Steering Committee of 12 volunteer residents of Wickwar with the help of many other villagers.   It involved wide scale consultation within the village.  All villagers were invited to indicate what they liked about living in Wickwar and what aspects of village life they would like to see improved.

An Action Plan was produced in June 2005.  It was based on the ideas and suggestions that received most support during the consultations undertaken by the Steering Group. It summarizes the areas where action could be taken to enhance the quality of life in Wickwar; it suggests what that action could be and who could consider taking the ideas forward. It was produced in booklet form and was delivered to every household in the village during June and July 2005. Download a copy, or view online by clicking here.

The final report of the Village Plan Steering Committee was produced over the summer of 2005 and was launched by the local Member of Parliament Steve Webb on 8 September 2005 . View the Photos page for more details.   The final report is a full record of the activities that were undertaken to produce the plan and also contains the survey results of the various consultations that were undertaken.  Copies of the final report have been forwarded to relevant authorities to provide them with information about what is important to villagers in Wickwar.  Download a copy of the Final Report by clicking here.

Wickwar Parish Council has established a working group to consider the proposals outlined in the Village Plan and to decide on their own action plan for responding to the proposals directed specifically to the Parish Council.

Any individual villager is welcome to take up the ideas proposed in the plan.  Please let us know if you are interested in taking up any of the proposals in the Plan by using the Contact Us section of this Website.

The Village Plan Steering Group has now completed its work.  For further information about the Village Plan please contact Hilary Kingswood on 01454 294820.

Wickwar and Rangeworthy Parish News

The Parish News is disributed free to all households in Wickwar and Rangeworthy. It is produced monthly for distribution on, or about, the 1st of each month. The magazine is produced and distributed by volunteers. All monies raised by advertising go to cover printing costs and other church publication and stationery costs.

The deadline for articles and adverts is the 10th of the month for the next month's edition

It is prefered that articles and adverts to be supplied electronically, as an e-mail attachment. If this is not possible then on floppy disk or CD / DVD.

The best formats are any of the Microsoft office files (Word, PowerPoint publisher) - however pdf format is also acceptable. NB a Parish News page is A5 in portrait mode.

Articles and adverts can be scanned from paper copy - typed text can be converted, but pictures and images lose definition and print re-production can be poor. Hand written articles can be manuallyt entered - as long as enough warning is given.

Occasionally photographs are included - but the print re-production tends to be disappointing.

Business advertising is generally only for local businesses, typically within a 5 mile radius. At the moment only quarter and half page adverts are being taken. Businesses can also ask for an entry in the trade directory.

Any size articles and advertising of local events (1/4, 1/2 or full page) are accepted. However the editors do need to reserve the right to reduce depending on how much copy there is for a particular month. There is a discounted charge for adverts, although for free events or charitable events charges can be waived.

There is a letters section ("Village Life!") and diary of events. Where articles are printed (at the discretion of the Editorial Team) only if name and address is supplied.

The Wickwar and Rangeworthy Parish Magazine aims to carry a balance of community and religious based information. it also aims to promote local clubs and associations. The Parish News is heavily reliant on people sending in material.
