Bristol and South Gloucestershire Council were successful in their application to become Englands first Cycling City. This is fantastic news and will enable us to deliver a real cultural change in cycling in Greater Bristol. This announcement was made on the 20th June and Cycling England, the body who made the award, are coming to visit both ourselves and South Gloucestershire on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th July. The purpose of their visit is for the Cycling England Team to more clearly understand the nature and detail of our joint proposals and will involve a large element of out and about on bicycles. We would like to invite you to a cold finger buffet at Armada House in Bristol between 1800-2030hrs. The buffet will run from 1800-1830hrs followed by a workshop. Officers from Bristol City and South Gloucestershire Council will give a short presentation outlining our bid followed by a response from Cycling England. We will then break into smaller groups to give you an opportunity to raise issues, suggest ideas and discuss the wide range of opportunities which could be delivered under the Cycling City Project. I would stress at this time that this is the start of the process of engagement with user groups and stakeholders. The success of the Cycling City Project will be hugely influenced by ideas and suggestions from yourselves. We apologise for the relatively short notice of this event, but as we have said above this is the first one of a wider programme of engagement and would be grateful if you would confirm your attendance. Please click here for directions to Armada House. We can confirm that there will be additional cycle parking available similar to that provided recently at Bristols Bike Breakfast. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ring Nick Pates on 0117 3525736. |
